“Undoubtedly the most impressive room on the ship.”
The former first-class gala room is without doubt the most monumental room of the ss Rotterdam. During cruises countless famous and prominent guests were received in the Grand Ballroom, originally called the Ritz Carlton. Today the Grand Ball Room is a unique space for any kind of event, welcoming its guests in elegance and ambiance.
In terms of art this room is truly a voyage of discovery. All decorative elements of the room are inspired by the sea. An enormous masterpiece of Cuno van den Steene, which expresses life in and around the Aegean Sea, dominates the entrance wall. The ceiling considers six rows of illuminated, colorful cylinders which creates a unique atmosphere. Moreover, the upper and lower floors each have an outdoor terrace, which invites guests to enjoy an aperitif or after dinner drink outside, obviously depending on the local weather.
The authentic, informal furnishings make this space very suitable for festive gatherings. It is also possible to stage presentations. The current set-up can be partly changed. The Grand Ballroom is equipped with a projection system, four TFT screens and a sound system for background music and voice. A mobile sound system can be connected to this for more professional amplification.
