On Sunday September 10th, the Dutch Swing College Band will once again be on board the ss Rotterdam. Between 04:00 and 07:00 p.m., they will be performing in the Queen’s Lounge. True jazz lovers definitely won’t want to miss this evening – there is, after all, only one Dutch Swing College Band!
About the Dutch Swing College Band
During the Second World War, jazz was prohibited in the Netherlands. Nevertheless, there were a few young people who were not willing to give up on this type of music and wanted to keep it alive in their country. They practised and performed in secret and were determined to establish a school for jazz music after the war: the Swing College. On Liberation Day in 1945, the Orchestra of the Dutch Swing College had its first performance. Lectures were held, jazz meetings were organised and members of the orchestra – whose name was soon changed to the Dutch Swing College Band – gave music lessons. In 1960, the Dutch Swing College Band became a professional orchestra. They have won many prizes and perform to this day all over the world to great critical acclaim.
Tickets for this special performance can be bought in advance from Nationale Theaterkassa (the National Theatre Ticket Office) and cost €24.50 (excluding booking fee).
